Michael "Mike" Houston Bennett, 64, of Quinwood, passed away Friday, July 7, 2017, in the Peyton Hospice House, following a valiant battle with cancer.
Born February 13, 1953, in Rainelle, he was the son of JoAnn Walker and Sonny of Rainelle, and the late Wilton West Bennett.
A 1971 graduate of Greenbrier West High School, he then attended 2 years of college and then went to work in the mines. Following his hard work, he enjoyed golfing, riding his Harley, and driving in his corvette. Mike enjoyed his bike trips with Julian and Chris. He was known to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His greatest achievement was his rededication to the Lord.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Charlotte Jean Robertson Bennett; 2 sons Michael Bennett II (Kassie) of Charlotte, North Carolina and Chris Bennett (Elizabeth) of Louisa, Virginia; 1 daughter Penny Curry (Zac) of Kearneysville, WV; 1 brother Julian Bennett (Patricia) of Charlotte, North Carolina; 1 sister Jo Lynn Bennett of Shady Springs; 4 grandchildren Nicholas Cole Bennett, Alexandria Curry, Cash Curry and Baby Bennett, due in December; and a host of extended family and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 9, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Keith Delatte and Pastor Jim Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.
Friends may call one hour before the service from 1 - 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
