Robert's Story

Robert L. Kosnoski, 83, of Beckley, WV, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017.
He was born on August 10, 1934 and was the son of the late Adam Kosnoski and Faye Adams Kosnoski. Preceding him in death, were his son, Craig Kosnoski in 1975, the mother of his children, Joyce Jones Kosnoski in 2009 and a sister, Patsy Houck in 2015.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Nida Salyers Kosnoski of Beckley. He is also survived by his son, Gerald Kosnoski of Myrtle Beach. Also surviving are two sisters, Jackie Lafon of Coppell, Texas and Polly Legg (Bobby} of Beckley.
Bob was a very successful business entrepreneur. He developed and owned companies in the mining industry and support operations in the industrial equipment repair as well as land reclamation and stone quarries. He was a leader in the surface mining industry for more than twenty years. He was President of K & N Coals Inc. and Imperial Coal and Construction Co. and Vice­ President of Hobet Mining and MyNu Coals from 1967 until 1974. He owned and operated Beckley Stone Company and Raleigh Stone Ltd. from 1975 until 1989. He operated Mountaineer Seeding and Reclamation, Mountaineer Equipment Sales and Mountaineer Parts and Repair Inc. from 1968 until 1991.
Mr. Kosnoski founded the Crossroads National Bank in Beckley and was Chairman of the Board for several years. He also served on the City Holding Corp. Board of Directors, as well as serving on the board of the Raleigh County Airport Authority Board. He is also a past member of the Board of the West Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges. He was committed to education and generously supported the College of West Virginia as well as Beckley Area Foundation. He supported many local charitable entities.
He had many passions, certainly his special cat, Elle, his farm, flying, motorcycle riding, driving his RV and traveling. He was the first person to receive his license from the Beckley Flying School, Beckley-Mount Hope Airport. He loved spending time working on his farm on Sweeneysburg Road. He was a 1953 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and always supported their class reunion events. He was accomplished at all of his endeavors.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the Bible Baptist Church at MacArthur. The viewing will be 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. with the service beginning at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Thomas Shepherd officiating. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be friends and family, Randy Dempsey, Cody Houck, Paul Legg, Richard Jarrell, John Daniel Houck, Nathan Barnes, Tim Legg and Jim Lucas.
