Roy Lee McCoy, 78, of Oceana, WV, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Mercer Nursing and Rehabilitation, Bluefield, WV.
He was born on December 24, 1938, in Panther, WV, a son of the late Floyd and Viola Cline McCoy.
Roy was a veteran of the United States Army. He was employed by U.S. Steel for many years, he then owned and operated several coal mines for more than 20 years, employing hundreds of people. Roy loved mining coal. His hobbies were gun and knife collecting. He was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church, Saulsville, WV.
He was also preceded in death by his loving and faithful wife of 46 years and eleven months, Alice Church McCoy, two brothers James Ray McCoy and Wayne McCoy, a sister Opal Brooks, brothers-in-law Vernie Goode and Buddy Brooks, sister-in-law Jenny McCoy. Survivors include his children Charles (LaWonne) McCoy of Oak Ridge, NC, William (Wife) McCoy of Kopperston and Reta (Brian) Morgan of Matheny; grandchildren Laci (Travis) Everheart, Dr. Laura (Preston) Tran, Matthew McCoy and companion Maria Shropire, Hollie McCoy, Austin McCoy, Marissa (Henry) Schomaker, Colton Morgan, Lunden Morgan and Dawson Morgan; great grandchildren Mallory Everheart and Levi McCoy; two brothers John (Wilma) McCoy and Russell (Pam) McCoy; three sisters June Goode, Ann (Lindell) Goode and Nancy (Ward) Workman; brother-in-law Rusty Church; life long friend Arlin Steele; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Funeral service will be 1 PM on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 in the New Life Church, Jesse, WV, with Pastor Jay Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV.
Pallbearers will be immediate family members.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be sent to Hospice of Southern WV, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801, in his memory.
