Donald Ray Riley passed away Thursday, September 1, 2016, at his home in Bluefield, VA, surrounded by his loving family. Born June 23, 1941, in Robinette, WV, he was the son of the late James Ray and Lucinda Saunders Riley.
He was an Air Force veteran, worked for the Chrysler Corporation in Wilmington, DE, Union Carbide, Eastern Associated Coal Corporation at the Harris Operation where he was also a longtime member of the award-winning Mine Rescue Team, a member of the Mine Health and Safety Committee, and was a longtime member of Local 1503 of the United Mine Workers of America, serving as its President. He retired as an International Union Organizer and a District Board Executive for District 17.
He loved talking politics, watching football and basketball, being with his family, particularly his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, never missing one of their athletic or sporting events in nearly 30 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Becky Lynn, three brothers, James Adkins, Charles Edward "Goo" Adkins, and Darrell Joe Riley, and two sisters, Shirley Clay and Ernestine "Teeny" Adkins.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Reva Gay Riley, of Bluefield, Va; two daughters, Lisa Browning and her husband Van of Greenville, SC, and Pamela Morgan and her husband Fred of Bluefield, VA; seven grandchildren, Heather Gay, Lyndsey Shirley, Wes Browning, Natasha Rashwan, Karly Morgan, Madison Morgan, and Benjamin Morgan; Nine great grandchildren, Braylon and Donovan Gay, Blake, Braxton, and Bentley White, and Asher Greggory, Chase, Isabella, and Jocelyn Browning; One Brother, Kenneth Riley and Wife Carolyn of Chesapeake, OH; One Sister, Donna Sue Polatakis of Bluefield, Va. Also several close family members and friends.
In keeping with his wishes, his cremation will be performed by Memorial Funeral Directory in Princeton, and there will be a private family service.
