Edna Alice Birchfield McCoy, 95, of Crab Orchard, WV, formerly of Panther, WV, passed away, Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Harper Mills in Beckley, WV.

She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up and call her blessed. Proverbs 31: 27&28. She put on her angel wings and went to Heaven to meet Jesus.

Edna was born October 29, 1921 in Buchanan County, Va., a daughter of the late Mose and Lucinda Lambert Birchfield.

She was a retired cook from the McDowell County Board of Education having worked at Panther Grade School for many years. Edna was a child of God and loved the Lord. She was loved and affectionally known as "Granny" to everyone who knew her. She loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed knitting, quilting, sewing, and cooking for her family. The last time she quilted she made a quilt for each one of her children. Edna is the last surviving member of her original family.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ernest McCoy; a daughter, Patsy McCoy McGuire; five brothers, Jess, Arthur, Everett, Frank, and Donald Birchfield; and one sister, Ethel Birchfield Cook.

Survivors include two daughters, Shelby Jean Cline and husband Kenneth of Crab Orchard, WV, and Carol Vance and husband Joe of Anniston, AL; four sons, Donald McCoy and wife Rose of Pineville, WV, Jerry McCoy and wife Alexis of Claymont, DE; Ernest McCoy and wife Doris of Graycourt, SC, and William McCoy of Furman, AL; a brother-in-law whom she raised as a son, Freeland McCoy of Pounding Mill, VA; 15 grandchildren, Melissa McGuire Justice, Michael, Jeffrey, and Christina Cline, Mark, Johnny and Bryan Vance, Matthew, JD, Daniel, Aaron, Lila, Summer and Ian McCoy and Chassie McCoy Duty; 10 great grandchildren, Kristen Justice Blankenship, Josh, and Nathan Justice, Montana, Austyn, and Paige Cline, Robert Tyree, Maisie, Peyton, and Shelby Vance; 3 great-great grandchildren, Jaylee Blankenship, Jacob Stacy, and Kinley Justice; and her special friends whom the family truly appreciate for all of their wonderful care, Misty Palmer, Geneva Hatfield, Linda Blankenship, Dr. Surayia Hasan, Dr. Thomas, all of the Harper Mills Nursing Staff; and Hospice Nurses, Christi, Amber and Brittany.

Funeral services will be conducted, Friday, November 18, 2016 at 12 o'clock with Elder Fred Bailey, and Reverend Roy Carter officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum on Harper Road in Beckley, WV. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her sons.

Friends may visit with the family Thursday evening, November 17, 2016 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV, where and evening service will be held at 7 p.m.
