Garnett Elizabeth Haynes Obituary

Garnett Elizabeth Hickman Haynes, 77, of White Sulphur Springs, passed away at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center on Saturday, June 25, 2016.

Born on November 17, 1938 in Christiansburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Josephine Hickman.

She attended Christiansburg Institute and retired from the Greenbrier Valley Airport after 25 years. She was the First Lady of White Sulphur Springs for three years and served on several committees throughout the years such as being on the Board of Directors for White Sulphur Springs Main Street project. Garnett was an active member of the community. Her accomplishments were many. She was recipient of the 2015 Greenbrier County Democrat of the Year, Elected as woman of the year as Deaconess for the First Baptist Church of White Sulphur Springs, Chairperson of Gateway Industries, and a Board member of Carnegie Hall.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years; Lloyd E. Haynes, Mayor of White Sulphur Springs, her sons; Daniel Haynes of Hollister, CA, Timothy Haynes and his wife Debbie from Cary, NC and her daughter Lottorian Haynes of Graham, NC, five grandchildren; Jason Stewart, Brent Stewart, Michael Haynes, Corey Edson and Kaitlyn Edson and five great- grandchildren. She also leaves behind family and friends in Floyd County, VA.

Services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Rhema Christian Center, 3584 Davis Stuart Road, Lewisburg, WV, 24901. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 2 p.m. and service will begin at 2 p.m. with Rev. Greg Scott officiating. Following the service the entombment will be at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens, Lewisburg, WV.

In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the White Sulphur Springs Emergency Fund, 589 Main Street West, White Sulphur Springs, WV 24986, in memory of Garnett Haynes.
