Summersville - Gary Lynn Ashby, of Summersville, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2026.
Gary was born October 21, 1954, in Philippi, the son of the late Caryl Virgil and Ada Lou Ashby.
After graduating Scott High School in 1973, Gary went on to attend Carver Technical School and Glenville State College. He began his career at Cecil I. Walker Machinery Company, where he retired after 42 years of service.
Gary was a quiet man who enjoyed helping others and volunteering in his community.
Over the years he served as Scoutmaster for Summerville Boy Scout Troop 220, held several positions at St. Martin's in the Field Episcopal Church, and was a member of the Grand Order of the Royal Leprechauns
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brother Mark Ashby and sister Deborah Shaw.
Gary is survived by his wife of 41 years, Margaret; son Alex Ashby, Summersville; daughter Leigh Sisson (Mike), Canvas; grandson Grant Sisson; brother David Ashby (Joyce), Cross Lanes; nieces and nephews, Jerry Ashby (Rachael), Clarksburg; Terri Moss (Terry), Weston; Matthew Ashby, Charleston; Adrianne Ashby, Charleston; Jarod Shaw (Bryn), and several more great-nieces and -nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday July 8th at the Waters Funeral Chapel in Summersville. Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 11 a.m. to service time. His body will be cremated at the conclusion of services.
