Jerry Nelson Raines Obituary

Jerry Nelson Raines, 81, of Princeton, died early Thursday morning, December 10, 2020, at Princeton Community Hospital.

Born November 8, 1939, at Montcalm, he was the son of the late Arthur Lee Raines and Mabel White Raines.

Jerry was a graduate of Mullens High School, Class of 1957, and attended Concord College in Athens. He was a proud veteran, serving with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict.

Jerry had worked for Firestone Tires for 5 years; he then went to work for Phillip-Morris in Richmond VA, where he retired as a supervisor with 20 years of service.

Jerry was an avid WVU fan. He enjoyed any type of sports that involved WVU.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert L. "Bob" Raines; a niece, Janet Raines Decker; nephews Butch & Brandon Raines.

Survivors include his three siblings Buddy Eugene Raines and wife Judy of Princeton, Larry Bruce Raines and wife Sandy of Beckley and RoseAnn Goddard of Bluefield VA;

Nine nieces and nephews, Debbie Baria (Mike), Bobby Lee Raines, Mike Raines (Jackie), Miranda Stutler (Tim), Jeff Raines (Valerie), Jamie Sawyers (Doug), Lindsay Bowers (Stephen), Dean Goddard (Diane) and Tammy Fahey (Pat); Several great-nieces and nephews;

Also, a special friend who was like a brother, Roger Conrad of Richmond, VA.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Junior Brown for the friendship, help, and care given to Jerry. Also, to Hospice Compassus for the care and love that was shown to Jerry in his last days.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Bluefield, with Pastor Jim Simmons officiating. Those wishing to attend are requested to meet at the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton by 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday.

Due to the Governor's mandate, masks and social distancing will be observed.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be sent in Jerry's name to Hospice Compassus, 1330 Mercer Street, Princeton, WV.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The Raines family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
