Karen Faye Dix Obituary

Summersville - Karen Faye Dix, 82, of Summersville, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026. She was the beloved daughter of the late Charles Erman and Nina May Myles Simms and was born at Canvas June 13, 1943.

Karen devoted her life to caring for her family as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She found great joy in being a stay-at-home mom and creating a warm and welcoming home for those she loved. Later in life, she discovered a passion for square dancing and became a well-known and beloved line dance instructor for more than 30 years. Through her dancing, she built countless friendships and brought joy to many people throughout her community. She also had a passion for making wine and proudly won ribbons at local fairs for her creations.


Karen was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Elsworth Franklin Dix; four siblings: Hollis Simms of Las Vegas, NV; Erma Cavendish of Nettie, Jetta Gomes of CA and Carl Simms of Nettie.


She is survived by her son, Frank Dix (Elizabeth) of Summersville, her daughter, Donna Atkins (Tim) of West Hamlin, her grandchildren, Makayla Atkins and fiancé Scotty Wroten of Apple Grove, Chase Atkins of West Hamlin, Mara Steinmetz (Blair) of Charlotte, NC, one great-grandchild, Blake Steinmetz of Charlotte, NC, and one sister, Patricia Williamson of Lemoore, CA,

Karen also shared a special lifelong friendship with Martha Johnson, who was not only her neighbor, but also her dearest friend.


Karen will be remembered for her kindness, her deep love for family, her joyful spirit, and the happiness she brought to others through dance, friendship, and laughter. She leaves behind many treasured memories that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

By Karens request, her body will be cremated with a private graveside service.
