Lynne Marie Callahan, 71, of Itmann, WV, passed away on December 12th after a brief battle with breast cancer. Lynne was born in Iowa City, Iowa on May 14th, 1951 to Flavia and George Moore. Lynne lost her mother at the age of two and was raised by George and Mary Louise Moore surrounded by her four sisters, Roberta Sue, Catherine, Sarah, and Mary Frances in Athens, West Virginia. After graduating from Athens High School in in 1968, Lynne attended Concord College where she obtained a bachelor's degree in French Literature and met her husband, Griffin Clay Callahan, Jr. In 1972, Lynne and Griffin began their marriage of 50 years, settling in Wyoming County where they raised their two children, Rebecca and Laura. Lynne taught elementary school in Wyoming County for 35 years with tenures at Itmann, Stephenson, Herndon, and Mullens Grade Schools. Lynne was a dedicated, patient, and deeply caring educator who touched the lives of hundreds of children. Upon retirement, Lynne spent much of her time at the Callahan family farm near Williamsburg in Greenbriar County. Lynne enjoyed gardening, making jam, and spending time with her numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She was loved deeply by her family for her calming presence, abundant patience, and generous heart. Lynne was a long-time member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Mullens. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, six grandchildren, and four sisters. A celebration of her life will be held at the Callahan farm in 2023.
