Ashland, KY - Martin L. Smith, age 96, of Ashland, Kentucky, formerly of Stanaford Acres, Beckley, WV, passed away on October 31, 2025.
Born on August 3, 1929, in Mabscott, WV, he was the son of the late Luther Smith and Anna Mae White Smith.
Martin graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, and shortly after married the love of his life, Eunice Campbell. They were married almost 69 years, when Eunice passed away.
Martin and Eunice moved to Hampton, Virginia, where he worked at the Newport News Shipyard, working there as a crane operator supervisor, until his retirement. They moved back to West Virginia to enjoy a long retirement.
Martin enjoyed restoring antique cars and volunteering in the church. He and Eunice were members of the Stanaford Missionary Baptist Church.
Martin was a kind, caring and generous man, by all who knew him. He was the first to help the less fortunate, and those who were in need.
Martin was preceded in death by his ten brothers and sisters, Guy, Alma, Marcella, Roy, Jimmy, Nellie, Betty, Fred, David and Ernie. Martin was also preceded in death by his wife, Eunice.
He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca and son-in-law Donald Harvey; his grandson, Donald Jr.; great granddaughter Raegan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
After Eunice's death, Martin lived with his daughter and son-in-law in Kentucky.
A service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum B. in Beckley, WV, on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family thirty minutes prior to the services on Tuesday at the mausoleum. Pastor George Wood will be conducting the service. Burial will follow at the cemetery.
A special thanks is given to the staff at Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility and Ashland Hospice.
