Oak Hill - Pastor William Ray Skeldon, Distinguished Mountaineer, 96 years old, of Oak Hill, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Hidden Valley Nursing Home in Oak Hill.
Born December 25, 1929, in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of the late William Jesse Skeldon and Gladys Fern Latham Skeldon.
From 1956 until 2015 "Bill" pastored seven congregations in 3 different states the last in Oak Hill, where he pastored for 43 years. Bill also worked as a school teacher for several years. Loving music he played significant roles in several productions of the South Bend Indiana Civic Theater annual productions. An avid runner he ran and finished 7 Marine Corps Marathons in Washington D.C.
Along with his parents he is also preceded in death by his loving wife, Gene Spahr Skeldon; and his first born son, William Grant Skeldon.
Those left to cherish his wonderful memory include his loving sons, Mark Edward Skeldon, John Warren Skeldon, and Matthew Dale Skeldon; grandchildren, Jenna Arganbright, Suzanne, and Katherine; and great grandchild Jaida Rose Clark.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill, with Rev. Mike Meadows and Rev. Ron Lilly officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill.
Visitation for friends will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home in Oak Hill.
