Violet Marie Carte Obituary

Hico, West Virginia - Violet Marie Carte, 80, entered into the presence of our Lord on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 in Beckley, West Virginia following a short illness.

She was the daughter of the late Delbert Hurston and Bessie Evelina Hypes.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Darrell Hypes, Kendall Hypes, Sisters Sharon Hypes and Betty Hypes.

Left to cherish her memories is her husband of 59 years. Howard "Bun" Carte of Hico. Sons, Greg (Robin) Carte, Dewayne (Jamie) Carte both of Hico, WV. Two grandsons Caleb (Katie) Carte of Ansted and Collin (Katelyn) Carte of Hico. One great grand-daughter and great joy to her life, Emery Carte. Special brother-in-law Darrell "Cub" Carte of Hico. Brothers Russell (Linda) Hypes, Deb (Susan) Hypes both of Hico; sister Francie (Charlie) Asbury of Hickory, NC. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends on Stringtown Road and beyond.

Violet was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church where she and her husband faithfully attended many years. She had a beautiful alto voice and often sang with others in the group "Joyful Noise". She loved the Lord, and wished that all would come to know Him as their personal Lord and Savior. Violet made many friends through the years working at Reed's Greenhouse on Stringtown Road. She loved anything she could plant, and would always help others earn their green thumb with her guidance. Many came to visit year after year, she thought of them all as family. There wasn't a family dinner or special event that her dishes weren't the main course. She loved to cook, bake, and serve others through a covered dish or a platter of cookies. Her ministry was served through a full table and a spatula in hand. Those that knew her always saw a sewing machine nearby, with a quilt in progress. She made so many friends through her quilting guild, often traveling to North Bend for sewing retreats. Her smile would light up a room. She was so thoughtful and encouraging. She loved her family so much and friends ended up as family along the way. She always thanked the Lord for the goodness in her life and found a way to make everyone's life just a little easier. She will be missed and her absence on Stringtown will be felt by so many. May her life be a testimony to the Lord Jesus Christ, May He be glorified in her homegoing. Know Him today, so that one day, we can all be around the same table again.

Services for Violet will be Saturday, May 31, 2025 at the Wallace & Wallace Memorial Chapel in Ansted, WV at 2pm with Pastor Pat Gray and Pastor Allen Travis officiating. Friends may visit an hour prior. Burial will follow at Legg Family Cemetery in Hico.
